Greg Hakanen was appointed director of asset management and real estate development for the University of Notre Dame effective June 1, 2004. In this role, Hakanen’s primary responsibility is to represent the University in its efforts to revitalize the Northeast Neighborhood of South Bend, located south of campus at the University’s “front door.” When completed, the redevelopment will include retail, office, hospitality, and a wide variety of residential uses.

Prior to coming to Notre Dame, Hakanen spent 20 years in commercial real estate in the Chicago area, most recently with Arthur Hill & Co., where he oversaw various aspects of the development of Church Street Plaza, a $120 million mixed-use redevelopment in the heart of downtown Evanston, the home of Northwestern University.

Although Hakanen did not attend Notre Dame—he is a graduate of Dartmouth College (B.A.) and Stanford University (MBA)—he is a “quadruple Domer” of sorts: his wife, Heather, works in the University’s Development office, and his sons Cory and Kyle will be junior and sophomore students living in Sorin and Alumni Halls, respectively.
